## About

Bridge Panic is a physics puzzle about building a bridge as cheaply as you can without letting anyone fall in the river. You get two cliffs, a gap between them and a fixed budget. You connect joints with beams, press Go, and the crossing begins. If the bridge holds, everyone walks over and you see what it cost. If it snaps, you see exactly where, then fix it and try again.

Three characters use your bridge: Runner, who is quick, Melon Uncle, who is heavy, and Nervous Ned, who panics at the worst moment. When someone falls in, they simply swim out and everyone is fine, so the game stays cheerful even when a bridge collapses. The puzzle is in the engineering: a cheap bridge that holds is worth more than an expensive one that barely survives.

It runs free in your browser, with no download and no account, with a mouse or a finger on a phone or tablet. Your unlocked levels and best costs are stored on this device.

## How to play

1. Start with Level 1. The game shows the fixed bolts in the rock where your bridge can begin.
2. Pick a material from the tray: Wood road, Steel road, Rope or Beam. Each tile shows its price per metre.
3. Drag from a joint to where the next beam should end. On a touch screen you can also tap a joint, then tap the target. Tap a beam to remove it.
4. Watch the budget. If a piece would push you over it, the game warns you and does not place it.
5. Press Go. The characters line up and walk across while you watch the strain on every beam.
6. If the bridge fails, watch the replay in slow motion, then press Fix the bridge to return to editing. Undo and Clear help you rearrange.
7. When everyone makes it, you get the cost and a star rating. Move on, or rebuild the same level cheaper.

## Rules in detail

The road is what people walk on, so it must run unbroken from one cliff to the other. Wood road is the basic choice. Steel road is stronger and costs much more per metre. Beams are lighter and stronger than planks and are meant for the structure around and under the road. Ropes cost the least and suit towers and wind. Each material has a maximum length, and the game tells you when a piece is too long.

Triangles are the key idea. A four-sided frame leans over, while a triangle holds its shape. When a beam shows high strain, it is carrying more than it can take. You can fix that with a stronger material, a second beam beside it or a triangle underneath that shares the load.

Your result depends on cost. Finish with no more than 75 percent of the budget for three stars and no more than 90 percent for two stars. Anything within the budget still passes with one star. A level is lost when the bridge breaks, when someone gets stuck on a road that is too steep or cut, or when time runs out before everyone crosses.

## Tips

- Start from the bolts on the rock and build triangles. A plain deck with nothing under it will snap.
- Use Beam for slanted pieces instead of planks. It is lighter, stronger and cheaper per metre.
- Read the hints. A red ring marks a beam end that is not connected, and a marked spot shows where the bridge sags.
- Do not buy steel everywhere. Only the most strained beam needs it, and a second beam is often cheaper.
- When the wind warning appears, check your ropes. They should run from the tower tops toward the middle of the road, not only to the ends.
- If you are stuck, use Build the example bridge. A see-through example shows what is missing, and Undo brings your own design back.

## Characters and levels

There are five levels. Level 1 sends Runner alone, and Level 2 adds Melon Uncle, whose weight tests your structure. Level 3 puts a rock pillar in the river and brings in Nervous Ned. Levels 4 and 5 have towers on the cliffs and a gust of wind that pushes the bridge sideways. Ropes alone are not enough there: you also need triangles under the road.

The characters enter one after another, so the bridge often carries several loads at once. Nervous Ned shouts when the road starts to shake, and the slow-motion replay shows exactly where a failure began.
